Course Description

 Grade 10 1 Year

Students study major turning points that shaped the modern world from the Renaissance through the present. They trace the rise of democratic ideas and develop an understanding of the historical roots of current world issues, especially as they pertain to international relationships. They contrast the American experience of democratic ideals with those of other countries, understanding democracy is not practiced everywhere in the world. Students develop an understanding of current world issues and relate them to their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural contexts. Writing assignments include a research essay based on a theme addressed in the course
