MSHS Sophomore Wins Sate Essay Contest

Mary Star of the Sea High School sophomore, Justin Jimenez, has been named the state winner of the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. Justin will receive this prestigious award on March 14th at the Irvine Marriott. Justin Jimenez and MSHS sophomores Carlee Carter and Priscila Medina took first, second and third place respectively in the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. The district also awarded twenty-one certificates to MSHS sophomores for their outstanding essays. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) partnered with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) in 1996 to sponsor an annual national essay contest in honor of Christopher Columbus. The contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve.
