Celebration of our Blessed Mother

Our school motto,  “Monstra Te Esse Matrem”, which is latin for “Show yourself to be our Mother,” is at the heart of every prayer at Mary Star.  It is taken from the ancient hymn “Ave Maris Stella” (Hail, Star of the Sea).  This prayer expresses our desire to receive Mary as our spiritual Mother.  April 30, 2018 was a day of celebration for our patron saint, the Blessed Mother.

The high school invited the Mary Star Elementary School and Bellarmine-Jefferson High School students this year to share in our festivities. We came together as a community and mass was celebrated by our Pastor, Fr. Harrigan.  Several students from each grade were chosen to be an honor guard for the procession, and Seniors Erik Sarabia and Melanie Meza were chosen to crown the statue of our Blessed Mother.

After lunch was served to all students, we had a day of fun and festivities.  Our younger students enjoyed playing soccer, karaoke, bubble stations, hula hooping, creating Marian Art, and face painting.  Our older students gathered on the practice fields to enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and fun.  They played dodge ball, volleyball, street hockey, archery and kick ball.  We had an array of goodies for sale by several clubs on campus (cotton candy, popcorn, nachos, baked goods and a candy shop) and popsicles were distributed to all.

Much thanks to the many parent volunteers who came to help with the day and to our student volunteers who were ambassadors for our guests, both from the Elementary and Bell-Jeff High School.
