Financial Aid for College
Both two- and four-year colleges offer financial aid for students in the forms of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs.Financial aid comes in several forms including
- Scholarships (merit and other criteria-based)
- Work/study programs (on campus work opportunities for students)
There are various types of financial scholarships including:
- Merit scholarships– given for academic achievement (high school GPA and/or college admissions test results). To be considered, you generally must apply to the college by a set date and additional applications are NOT necessary.
- Criteria-based scholarships– given for a limitless number of reasons, each organization deciding its own criteria for scholarship awards.Another source is www.fastweb.com for a very large scholarship database.You can apply for any scholarships for which you qualify!
