You will begin planning and writing for your essay on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. 

Research relevant sources and compile a list of references you will use to support your arguments.

Example thesis statement: 
In Mary Shelley's famous novel, the theme of responsibility is portrayed as being of the utmost importance when considering the duties and obligations of parents towards their children.

Example #2: 
Frankenstein as a work of literature warns against the dangers of unchecked or obsessive scientific advancement as Victor Frankenstein meets his destruction at the hands of his own work.

CREATE GOOGLE SLIDES TO BE PRESENTED

Topics: life extension, genetic engineering, cryogenics, cloning, neural implant chips

For your topic you will, in groups, design and complete a presentation for the class. Slides must fit proper formatting and style and contain relevant images. All facts/data must be referenced (link/citations throughout or at the end). 3 benefits and 3 dangers minimum must be discussed for each topic. You must also create a slide with a thought linking your ideas to themes of the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Presentations will commence tomorrow, Thursday May 8, and are worth 25% of the grade for this project.

In groups of 3 or less, research these people and their works/ideas. Create a slideshow and submit to me via email, making sure to include all names of group partners for credit.

You will work in groups of 3 or 4 students.


Create social media pages (in Google Slides) for any 3 THREE characters from the novel Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. 

For each page, include a profile picture, biography/personal description, and 3 posts about the character's life, relationships, events, thoughts, etc..

Timeline can be before, during or after the events of the book.

In your opinion, was justice served to Cassetti (Ratchett)? Does the public ever get to take matters into their own hands? Talk about court systems, vigilantism, and mob-rule when answering this question.

Instructions for Your Students
This exercise will help you think about how external possessions tell us something about the character of a hero. After reading and discussing the arming scene in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, you will create your own coat of arms for a character on a quest. In the end, you should be able to talk about the goals and values of heroic characters, whether or not they can live up to these, and how this shapes the way we see them. 
Step 1: In class you'll be read lines 566-669, the scene in which Gawain is armed for his journey to the Green Chapel. Pay special attention to the description of Gawain's shield. What does piece of armor tell you about Gawain's character? 

Step 2: With a small group, create a character on a quest, and to arm him/her. Here are your parameters:
The hero and quest may be modern (does not have to be medieval).
The hero may be female or male.
The group must give the character a purpose (a quest) and a set of values that he/she lives by.
The group must design at least a shield with a coat-of-arms somewhere on it for their hero. For ideas on heraldic devices, see International Heraldry & Heralds.
The group should consider if their hero has any flaws, slight or great.
Step 3: Share your creations with the class. 
Step 4: Answer a final question: Does the story of Gawain's quest show that he has measured up to his stated values or not? How does your conclusion affect how you view the idea of the hero?

As per the handout in class you are planning a cinematic adaptation of the Lord of the Flies novel.

You must choose for each of the following topics:
1. Setting (location)
2. Cast (Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon, Roger)
3. Soundtrack (opening music, ONE mainscene, closing track)
4. Backstory (changing details of the plot, plane crash, zombie apocalypse, etc.)
5. Costumes (depend on your backstory)
