Course Overview: Following the California State Social Studies standards, this course will examine history from the Renaissance to the modern era. The class will focus on specific historical themes as outlined in the text with the integration of geography, literature, art, music, and other relevant ideas that pertain to the unit being covered. Included in the areas of study are the Age of Monarchs, Nationalism, Industrialization, World Wars I and II, the Cold War and recent world events. The emphasis will be on writing and research. Students will complete several writing assignments each semester and at least one research essay.
