Good Afternoon !

...I hope everyone is springing forward with the Daylight Savings time change. ; )

For this week . . . as you all know, you will continue working on your gridding project. You all are doing such an amazing job. I'm really proud of you guys working hard at mastering gridding. At this point, you should be finishing up on drawing all your contour/silhouette lines and begin to block off and mark areas from your photo of highlights and dark areas on your grid. You can then begin the shading process using the blending tool = blending stump and kneaded eraser. BUT !!!! ... DO NOT FORGET TO ERASE YOU GRID LINES BEFORE YOU START SHADING. I would like you to make your own value scale for your picture on the side of your grid. This will help you start off with the light areas first. Making sure that you shade lastly the darkest areas with the ebony pencil. You will receive 25 points for your value scale, and 50 points for shading techniques.

Enjoy the rest of your day ... and see you all tomorrow!

Assignment

Good Evening All! . . . Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for Monday!

This week we are going to be  . . . GRIDDING. ...That is, we are going to be learning what a lot of  artists do to enlarge their artwork. In a nutshell, the grid method involves drawing a grid over a reference photo, and then drawing a grid of equal ratio on your work surface (paper, canvas, wood panel, a wall as a mural, etc). Then, drawing the image on your canvas by focusing on only one square at a time; until the entire image has been transferred. Over the next month, you will be working on enlarging your own reference picture that can be of a person, animal, or car. PLEASE BRING A BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE IN BY WEDNESDAY. We will talk more on this tomorrow. But mainly, IT CANNOT BE LARGER THAN AN 8 1/2" X 11" AND NO SMALLER THAN A 5" X 7."

...Thank you all for your help with the printing of your pictures. It is much appreciated and saves what ink I have left. Also, the library is available to print as well as you all know. . . and see you all tomorrow!  : )

Assignment

Greetings All! .  .  .

Monday is a minimum day, so with the shortened period we will be doing something a little bit different. We are going to discuss how we show kindness in our daily lives and then illustrate it on paper. More specifically, Google is having a contest (www.doodle4google.com) and invites you all to take your ideas of how you show kindness and bring them to life using Google's logo. Maybe you may show kindness by helping around your home, volunteering in your community, comforting someone's who's down, or picking up trash in the park. Whatever it may be, this year’s theme invites you to tell us how you show kindness. I can't wait to see what you all will come up with!

For Tuesday/Wednesday block periods, we will be introducing our seventh Element of Art . . . TEXTURE. We will watch a short video and then complete a student guide worksheet on how to create texture within our artwork. Then, we will get into a new technique of metal embossing. This technique is an excellent way to illustrate texture, vs. implied texture within drawing.

By Thursday, you will have the entire class time to work on your metal embossing and your landscape, and or any other make-up work that needs to be completed. Remember, progress reports are coming! ...yikes!

While lastly on Friday, your landscape will be due. . .I know I stated this last Friday. But, they will definitely be due this time.

Due:

. . Hope you all had a fun and exciting Super Bowl Sunday! ...Now it's time to get in gear for Monday!

Tomorrow is a minimum day, so with the shortened period we will be introducing our sixth Element of Art . . . SPACE. We will watch a short video and then complete a worksheet on how to create space in your artwork.

For Tuesday/Wednesday block periods, you will be developing a landscape. We will go over how you will design your landscape with a PPT presentation from creating an illusion of depth within a two-dimensional frame. You will utilize your skills in drawing techniques that you have learned thus far with the use of placement, overlapping, perspective, shading, value, size and focus in order to produce a landscape. The medium for this landscape will be pastels ...where you will express an emotion, or use complementary colors.

By Thursday, you will have the entire class time to work on your landscape, and or any make-up work that needs to be completed.

While lastly on Friday, your landscape will be due.

This week, we introduce the fifth Element of Art ... COLOR . . .

. . . Happy MLK Day! ...Hope you enjoyed the 3-day weekend!

To start off, DON'T FORGET that both the LINE DESIGN PROJECT and the TANGRAM PROJECT are due by the end of class tomorrow!

For Tuesday/Wednesday, we will watch a short video on FORM: an Element of Art, and then learn how to create form by drawing the contour lines of our hands with a sharpie and a latex glove. Then, you will be transferring it to your sketchbook and then applying mark making techniques to shade in order to create depth in your form.

By Thursday, we will discuss the next important Element of Art: VALUE. We will begin to understand how value is created from a light source when shined on an object's surface. How value creates depth in a composition to create an object to look 3-dimensional from the use of highlights and cast shadows. We will attempt this by use of a pointillism/stippling project.

Lastly, Friday is a minimum day. I will give you time in class to finish completing both form and value projects.
