1. Choose a page from Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. (You can use a page from your copy of the book/PDF if you would like, or you can print one of the sample text pages listed under Additional Resources).

2. Use your selected passage to create an original “blackout poem” based on anything about yourself (e.g. your family, things you love, how you feel, something you believe, an experience you had, a dream you hope for yourself, etc.). Remember that creative-style blackouts are eligible to receive extra points.

3. Write a 1+ paragraph typed explanation of your poem (6-7 sentences minimum). What is it about, specifically? What do you want the reader to know about you?
