COLLEGE NIGHT FOR PARENTS

October 18th, 2023

This special evening is for parents of all high school students to learn more about the college admissions process and ways for parents to work with their students to prepare for life after their high school years. This event supplements the visits from admissions reps who visit our school during the day, which this year include: Mount St. Mary’s, LMU, UCSD, Sonoma State, St. Mary’s, NYU, U of Mary, Belmont Abbey College,and more.

  • University of Southern California (Room 107)

   Whitney Rollerson, Event Manager, USC Office of Admission

      

      Come learn about the undergraduate experience at the University of Southern California! This presentation will discuss the unique learning opportunities available at USC, life on campus and in Los Angeles, and the Trojan Family. It will also include information on the admission and financial aid processes at USC.

Maria Castillejo-Huanosta, Freshman Admissions Counselor, UC Santa Barbara


Maria Castillejo Huanosta does outreach across the Southern CA area in the fall and reviews applications in the winter. Come hear about the UC application process, including requirements and timeline. UCSB’s campus and course offerings are covered including majors, student organizations, and other valuable resources.

     Ingga Therese Lupac, Admissions and Recruitment Advisor, CSU, Dominguez Hills   


The Dominguez Hills campus is the Cal State campus that serves our geographic area. Parents and students will be briefed on CSU admissions requirements, the application process, and other aspects of attending CSUDH. Resources specific to Dominguez Hills’ academic and student services programs will be covered.

Reyna Matos, an MSHS alumna, will present information regarding Jessup University in Rocklin, CA.  Jessup is a small, private Christian University offering 20+ Christ-centered undergraduate degree programs on a vibrant faith-based campus near the Bay Area of CA. “Big Enough for Opportunity- Small Enough for Community”

        Learn the benefits of attending El Camino College which include two FREE years of enrollment fees, via the South Bay Promise, guaranteed transfer options, career education pathway options, and free Dual Enrollment courses. Explore what the California Community College system offers at a great value for families.

      Discover exciting STEM-based careers in the transportation industry. Learn about the application process for a vocational/technical school.  Explore UTI industry partnerships that provide graduates with in-demand skills and career paths.

Ruth Herrera, MSHS class of ‘23.Dominic Alario, MSHS class of ‘23


Hear first-hand accounts from students who were CSF Sealbearers and NHS recipients, scholarship recipients, Principal’s Honor Roll students and collectively applied to and were accepted by nearly a dozen schools. They will share their experiences regarding their college applications, college acceptances, financial aid awards/scholarships, and their first-year experience after high school.

Each year the Cardinal Newman Society produces literature to help families looking for  truly Catholic postsecondary options in the United States. Pick up a pamphlet to learn about institutions, the college selection process, the Cardinal Newman Essay Scholarship Contest, and more information for families with future college students.
